The Adworld’s Animal All-Stars
By Mark Preiser
Having worked with animals in commercials, including numerous dogs, a chimpanzee or two and an African elephant, I was interested in an article I came across by Jason Notte in MSN Money. It’s entitled “The 16 greatest animal advertisers.” They are, in no particular order:
The RCA dog, Nipper, in front of his megaphone; the AFLAC Duck; Spuds McKenzie… the pooch who loved beer and bikini-clad models; Morris The “very finicky” Cat; Gidget, the Taco Bell Chihuahua; The Geico Gecko; The Budweiser Clydesdales; The MGM Lion…all five lions that played the role; Joe, the cartoon camel for Camel Cigarettes; Shamu, the orca at Seaworld San Diego; The Eveready Energizer Bunny; Charlie The Tuna; Geoffrey Giraffe, who vamps for Toys R Us; Bullseye, the bull terrier mascot with the painted target around his eye who represents Target; Vlasic Pickle’s stork, and for those who love alliteration…Chester the Cheetos Cheetah. Oh, one tip…when working with an elephant a pooper scooper will not suffice. I suggest a snow shovel.
